Hall M: Iconographic Hall of St. Benedict

Photo no.1 detail
Here many paintings portraying St. Benedict or Benedictine Saints are gathered. To be noted the painting on wood (photo no.1) by Francia (15th century) and the adoring St. Benedict by L. Giordano (18th century). The Papal Brief "Pacis Nuntius" dated 1964, by which Pope Paul VI proclaimed St. Benedict Patron Saint of Europe is displayed in the first glass case. The monumental fireplace at the far end of this room was formerly located in the Monastery in the so called "Fire Hall" where the monks gathered in winter during the long and cold evenings.
