Sala R: The small St. Anna cloister

Foto n.1 particolare
So called because of its Chapel bearing this name: the well structure in the center of the cloister is of the Roman era; the crutch-shaped capitals of the 10th and 11th century are very interesting.

At the end of our visit to the Museum we descend the grand staircase to return to the Bramante cloister and then to the Porter's Lodge.
After leaving through the main door, we may observe on the left, the ruins of polygonal walls dating back to the 4th and 3rd century B.C.
The word "PAX" indicates the primitive entrance site leading into a small room, transformed into Chapel and identified by secular tradition as being the Cell of St. Benedict, i.e. the very place in which he lived.
